Flight Training |
![]() A flight training course includes the ground and flight training necessary to teach the knowledge and skills required to safely and efficiently function as a certificated pilot. While the FAA requires a minimum of 20 hours of dual instruction (with the instructor) and 20 hours solo flight (just you in the aircraft). While the 40 hour minimum may be possible to attain, the national average is 55 to 65 hours due to the increased number of items/maneuvers the FAA has added over the years. Some other reasons for students requiring more than 40 hours of flight include the infrequency of training flights, delays due to bad weather (not flyable) and failure to study their book which leads to the flight instructor having to explain things during the flight which will add to your total flight time. The students our staff have instructed have been averaging 50 to 60 hours of flight training before obtaining their Private Pilot license, which is 5 to 15 hours below the national average. Remember, no person learns at the same rate, your total time will vary depending upon your desire to study, and frequency of lessons. We recommend flight lessons 2 or 3 times a week if possible, but many fly just a couple-few times a month. |
