| Want to climb
to the top of Heceta Head lighthouse? Go whale watching? Zoom across the
Oregon Dunes in a dune buggy? Kayak up the Siuslaw River? Or, if you're
frazzled by a too hectic lifestyle, you can soak in a private spa room
at the River House and let the world go by. Among our guests' favorite
things to do:
Fourteen miles
of horse trails wind through the forested land on Cape Mountain just a
few miles north of Florence. If you don't have your own horse, you can
rent one from C&M Stables. A horseback ride along the beach at sunset
may well be the highlight of your trip.
One of the
most popular stops on the Oregon coast is the Oregon Dunes National Recreation
Area. These splendid dunes, some as high as 500 feet, start across the
Siuslaw River in Florence and run 41 miles to the south. Sandboarding is
the newest craze for the young at the coast.
Golf is a year
round sport here. Florence boasts two challenging 18 hole golf courses.
Sandpines Golf Links was designated #1 New Public Course in America" by
Golf Digest in 1993 and is only five minutes from the River House. Ocean
Dunes Golf Links, four miles from the River House, boasts links style pot
bunkers, a double green, sand dunes and beautiful views of the surrounding
countryside. |
