The White Swan Tavern has been a familiar landmark in Chestertown since pre-Revolutionary War days. Not far from the great Eastern cities, it is an unexpectedly quiet, elegant place nestled in the history of Maryland's Eastern Shore. The White Swan is for those who treasure serene streets, birdsong mornings, impeccable service, and the grace of New World Tradition.

Our guests are served a continental breakfast daily, which they may receive in our tea room or in their guest room, and also receive a complimentary paper each morning and a fruit basket upon arrival. The White Swan Tavern offers free wireless broadband internet service. We also offer our guests complimentary beverage set-ups. Each room has a full private bath, central heat, and air conditioning. The sitting room downstairs offers cable television. Afternoon Tea is served daily between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. at the rate of $5 per person for the public, and free for our guests.

Bittersweet Guest Suites
In addition to the six White Swan Tavern rooms, two apartments known as the Bittersweet Guest Suites are also available for daily, weekly, and monthly rental. The apartments are located next door to The White Swan Tavern, above a downtown shop in Chestertown. Each apartment has a living room, kitchen, bedroom, bath, TV, and phone.

Guest Information
Room rates are per night, double occupancy; tax is not included in the rates. For an additional guest or an additional bed in any of our rooms, please add $30.  All rooms have their own private baths. 

Check in time is between 3-10:00 p.m.; late check-ins must be requested three days in advance. Check out time is 12:00 noon. We do not accept children under twelve. Sorry, no pets, please. Ask about our off-season discounts and mid-week business rates.

Deposit policy:

On one-night reservations, we require payment in full at the time the reservation is booked to confirm. For one room, multiple nights, we require one night's payment in full, balance due upon arrival. On two or more rooms, multiple nights, we require one nights payment in full to confirm the reservation, balance is due 30 days prior to the date of the reservation. On full house and special event bookings we require one nights deposit at time of booking, balance due 30 days prior to the date of the reservation.

Cancellations:

We are a small inn and cancellations can affect us significantly, therefore we adhere to the following cancellation and refund policies: Last minute cancellations, regardless of the reason, will result in forfeiture of your deposit. You may send a friend or family member in your place so long as you inform us before their arrival, however gift certificates are not transferable. For cancellation of one or two rooms, we require 14 days notice prior to your scheduled arrival date. For three or more rooms, we require 30 days notice of cancellation prior to arrival date. For full house and/or special event bookings, we require 60 days notice of cancellation to refund your deposit. There will be a $25.00 charge per room on all cancellations. Management reserves the right to customize all policies for individual bookings.
